Vigor2860 / 2925 4G Configuration

This guide will show you how to configure the Vigor2860 and Vigor2925 router to enable 4G communication via an attached 4G USB modem. The 4G modems that this guide will apply to are:

  1. Optus – Huawei E3276 4G USB modem

  2. Vodafone prepaid – K5150 4G USB modem

  3. Telstra Prepaid – ZTE MF823 4G USB modem

In our example we will use the Vigor2860 and WAN 3. The configuration for 4G will be identical in the Vigor2925 router.

 

Step 1 – Enable USB WAN port

Go to WAN >> General Setup configuration menu.

Select WAN3 or WAN4 and set Active Mode to Always On. (WAN3 corresponds to USB port1 and WAN4 corresponds to USB port 2).

Click on WAN3 to go to WAN3 configuration menu.

  • Select Yes for Enable

  • Set Active mode to Always On

  • Click on OK to save.

Step 2 – Enable USB WAN port

For WAN3 click on the pulldown menu and select 3G/4G USB Modem(DHCP mode).

Then click on Details Page to configure WAN3

 

Select Enable to enable this profile.

Select the required Network Mode. Options are:

  1. 4G/3G/2G
  2. 4G Only
  3. 3G Only
  4. 2G Only

 

We have selected the default setting 4G/3G/2G Network Mode.

Now enter the APN Name to correspond to the 4G modem being used and the ISP that you will be connecting to.

 

2.1 Optus 4G Configuration

Enter the APN Name:    connect

Optus

Click OK to save.

 

2.2 Vodafone 4G Configuration

Enter the APN Name:    live.vodafone.com

Click OK to save.

 

2.3 Telstra 4G Configuration

Enter the APN Name:    Telstra.internet

Click OK to save.

 

Step 3 – Establishing 4G connection

Plug in your 4G modem into USB1 of the router.

Go to Online Status>> Physical Connection router menu and check if the 4G connection is up.

Details will be shown under WAN3 status.

You should see WAN3 has a valid IP address and USB modem status will be Operational and signal quality shown.

Check that you have Internet connectivity by going to an Internet web page or run ping to an external site.
